Wolf Pines

The Goblet

It started back in 1800, when a farmhouse was built on a large plot of farmland in Hancock, New Hampshire. The trees populating this acreage were of a unique and striking ilk. They stood alone, like sentries, in open fields. The space around them allowed their limbs to grow and gnarl, grabbing sunlight in every direction and imbuing each tree with a form and personality all its own. These twisting towers of wood were nicknamed “wolf” trees – because they were like lone wolves sitting on the plain.

They are the inspiration for the name we’ve now given this reclaimed land: Wolf Pine Hollow. “Hollow” was added because we are carved out of the hills of the Monadnock ranges. The land sprawls up across a ridge and down to a beautiful five-acre pond, with Davis Brook meandering peacefully through it.

We, like the vast wildlife that visit these Wolf Pine trees and their surrounding abodes, are simply drawn to them. By taking in these trees without disturbance, you feel a connection with them. You will want to see the forest as they see it, through their mysterious and tranquil wisdom. They have names, too. “The Goblet” for one shaped like a wine glass. “Mother Nature” for another, whose outstretched branches welcome her flock with open arms. Then there’s “The Wizard”, frozen in a spellcasting pose. Each one has been a part of the farm’s history and is part of its present, just like the animals that graze its land, the beautiful orchard, and the old farmhouse itself.
These stalwart features, along with the pond, the extensive flower fields, our maple sugar bush, the artisanal farm store, and more, all make for an invigorating, enjoyable, and immersive farm experience for anyone who visits… and re-visits again and again.

And though we have maintained the great traditional aspects of the farmland, we’re also looking ahead. We have a farming philosophy and agroforestry approach that espouse responsible, organic principles – such as biodiversity, permaculture, and cover cropping. In short, our love for this land, and everything it possesses and produces, goes into our stewardship.
We hope you feel this passion when you experience Wolf Pine Hollow for yourself. And that it stays with you long afterward.
